2nd Annual Club Awards

A champion evening at Bracken Moor Sports and Social Club, home of our parent group Stocksbridge Park Steels, for our second end of year club awards ceremony. Records were updated, a new race league was announced, and much buffet was consumed.

Rachel Vernon dominated the Long Distance Championship, storming home to victory despite a significant injury and operation in the latter half of the year. With a grand total of 50 mighty marathons under her belt, and always showing tenacity and staying power, Rach was the runaway winner!

Jonathan Page claimed the vote for ‘Best Male Athlete’: having taken part in some absolutely brutal ultras this year Jonathan embodies the SRC spirit in all that he does, boasting a brilliant display of both speed and endurance. Nobody can catch Stocksbridge’s most speedy matron.

Rachel Howard came top of the pile for ‘Best Female Athlete’, having represented the club at a plethora of local events, and more often than not placing on the podium. Often found on a trail, knee deep in mud or doing something daft like running up a ski slope.

Amy Hutchinson was our richly deserved ‘Most Improved Athlete’; a vote that was hammered home with her achieving a club record and PB in a road 10k that very morning! Always tenacious, always with a gorgeous smile, Amy is a key member of SRC and we would be lost without her cheeriness and can-do attitude.

‘Club person of the year’ was a tie between Tim Daniell and Narni Fulford. The less said about these reprobates the better. Tim has stepped up to Chair and ensured the club is brilliantly steered through a rough patch; bravo Tim for giving up your time and your expertise. Narni was coerced into being secretary on the basis that she could influence the committee members into having meetings in a local bar, where there is wine.
