About

Stocksbridge Running Club was formed on May day 2023 by Richard Hayes and his daughter Molly, with the help and support of Stocksbridge Park Steels Football Club. Due to the location of Stocksbridge, runners to be part of any running club have to travel out the area either by car or public transport and with running as popular as ever, the demand for a local running club has never been stronger. Our main discipline is road running and road races. We also compete on the track and cross country as secondary disciplines.

Working with the towns football club Stocksbridge Park Steels, the running club was born, and with us being able to tap in to the facilities as well as having the same senior officials it allowed the club to get off the ground very quickly. Our first logo was based on the football clubs logo with a runner replacing the SPS on the clock tower and we added the crest of the football club into circles with our name and founding year on it.

The club is affiliated with England Athletics and began hosting their running group nights on a Monday in May 2023. In our first year we grew to over 30 members and now have two groups on a Monday, plus host another social run on a Thursday, plus we host our very own winter handicap series. The running club targets those runners who enjoy road running but also embrace runners who like trail and track racing. All group runs are held on the local roads and footpaths of Stocksbridge and surrounding areas.

Our biggest achievement as a club so far was our female F40 team won silver medals at the Yorkshire Vets Athletics Association Cross Country Championships 2024.

On 30th July 2024 we hosted our first ever AGM and we elected our first club officials that allowed us to become a self governing running club. We placed on record how grateful we was to the football club in our first year ad how going forward we are still part of the football clubs community umbrella but we now have our own officials and committee.

To usher in this new era we launched an updated logo (see above) and also launched our new club colours of maroon, gold and white. The new logo was an updated version of our first logo but with the addition of a female runner to show we have as many female as male members. The only other changes was swapping out the football clubs yellow and blue for the clubs new maroon and gold colours.

We are proud to be the towns first England Affiliated road running club, the last club in the town was the Stocksbridge Pace Setters and we are proud to follow in their footsteps.
