Handicap Explained
The event starts at xx:XX and the intended to finish by within 30 minutes. The plan is everyone finishes around the same time, based on the handicap you given at the start of the same. The handicap is based on your parkrun PB if set within the past 12 months or if not your fastest time set this year (aka season best)
The handicap list will be published at the end of the month and it will display 3 times. Your expected time to run the 4.3K route, your handicap and the your start time.
Example #1: Joe Blogs has a parkrun PB of 30:00 minutes, based on that I expect Joe to complete the route in 25:48, this would mean Joe’s start is calculated as 19:30:00 – 00:25:48 = 19:04:12
With start time of 19:00, Joe’s handicap would be 19:04:12 – 19:00:00 = 4 minutes 12 seconds
Example #2: Richard Hayes has a parkrun SB of 17:27 minutes, based on that I expect to complete the route in 14:59, this would mean my start is calculated as 19:30:00 – 00:14:59 = 19:15:01
With start time of 19:00, my handicap would be 19:15:01 – 19:00:00 = 14 minutes 59 seconds
This is how the handicap sheet would look based on the two examples above
Estimated | Handicap | Start time | |
---|---|---|---|
Joe Bloggs | 25:48 | 4:12 | 19:04:12 |
Richard Hayes | 14:59 | 14:59 | 19:15:01 |
Race Day
You must register in advance by filling in the form below, then you must be ticked off by 15 minutes before the start. This is essential as we do not want anyone left behind. There is no cost to members, guests (non-club members) are welcome to run at cost of £5.
The start is at junction to Fox Valley in front of the flower shop. The finish is at the far end of the path at the side of Aldie. The stopwatch will start from 00:00:00 at XX:XX. You will be called a minute or so before you are due to set off, but it is your responsibility to be at the start. Don’t blame the officials if you are having a chat and miss it.
Runners run at their own risk and are advised to take care, particularly if it is icy. Extra care should be taken on the final run as you may have fountains on and people leaving Zorro Lounge. Keep on the pavement at all times, as you are ALL ADULTS we expect you to know your highway code and act accordingly.
When you finish
Just after you cross the line, you will be given a card with your finish position on it. Take this to the official with the clipboard on who will record it down. The first person back will win a prize (a box of chocolates)
Once all runners are in, the times will be added to the finish list, typed up, and published on the club’s website. You will then see the following information (first two lines of a full set of results shown).
Pos | Name | Estimated Time | Finish Time | Actual Time | +/− |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Joe Bloggs | 25:48 | 29:12 | 25:00 | −0:48 |
2 | Richard Hayes | 14:59 | 30:30 | 15:29 | +0:30 |
This shows the estimated time, the time you finished after the clock started (approximately 19:00), the actual time you took to run the course and the difference between this and your estimated time.
