Meltham Tough 10K

Report by Rachel Howard

Thankfully the weather forecast changed from cold and wet and just cold on Sunday morning and it was windy up on the tops with patches of ice at the side of the road in places. That did not deter the 300+ strong eager runners all raring to go and tackle the 10K, 705 feet of elevation course.

After about a 200m flat section the route immediately starts to ascend for just short of 2 miles, flattens out for a short section, a bit more incline, a short descent to the halfway drinks station at the Bulls Head Inn, just water I’m afraid! Climbing back up to Moortop and finishing with a fast 1.5-mile descent.

I did this race last year, so I knew what to expect. Last year it felt a hard slog all the way around. I finished last year in 53.07 mins, 8th F45 & 30th female. This year, I was full of energy and was surprised when I reached the halfway point how good I felt and knowing that the long descent was coming up, spurred me on. I finished this year with a new 10K PB of 46.56 mins, coming in 12th female and 1st F45. Feeling quite pleased with myself.
